The Disposable Experiment: Square Zeros’ Zerofest 2 at Pet Rescue
If you haven’t yet happened upon Square Zeros, they are worth a stumble. Founded by Derek Hawkins, Jon Mann and Bettina Katie Warshaw, Square Zeros is a Brooklyn-based podcast and blog that talks to musicians about their remarkable (and embarrassing) beginnings. Last March they threw their second Zerofest, and night three of the four-day festival was hosted by Pet Rescue in East Williamsburg with No Ice, Best Behavior, Big Huge, Sunset Guns, The Neighbors, and The Space Merchants performing. We arrived late to the DIY spot (sorry, No Ice) but baring gifts: a handful of disposable cameras, asking the crowd to take the pictures (and essentially, do the work for us–wow, we’re starting to sound super slacky). The resulting photographs are quite spectacular; see for yourself in the first of hopefully many disposable experiments.
